Cuba Seizes Two Refineries As Oil Shortage Deepens
Cuban officials intervened and seized the Esso and Shell refineries after laboring to accept a shipment of Russian oil. The move follows nationalization trends as Havana relies on 80,000 barrels daily from Texaco, Standard Oil, and Shell for its industries. Officials feared tanker availability may halt further oil supplies.

Solons Hit Loan Firm Seizure Report Sparks Political Fallout
A congressional subcommittee faulted the federal agency over a seizure of a loan association led by Thomas A. Gregory. The probe noted a 37 million dollar run on deposits and questioned the emergency justification while suggesting possible government credit to restore the institution. The report, cleared with token opposition, signals Congress may pressure the bank board over long running disputes and contemplated use of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp and the San Francisco Home Loan Bank.

Long Beach Federal Plans $1 Million Dividends
Long Beach Federal Savings and Loan Association, seized by a government agency last April, announced plans to pay 1.35 million dollars in dividends to savings account holders. The six month rate is 4.14 percent per year on about 60 million dollars in accounts, with payouts starting immediately and a possible December 31 1960 distribution. Each account is insured up to 10 000 by the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp. Withdrawals after seizure forfeited dividends, and about 37 million was withdrawn in the two weeks after seizure.
