Orange County dairy era ends as urban growth shrinks herd
Agricultural officials say the era of the milk cow in Orange County is over as urbanization drives up land values and odor controls, leaving 14 dairies with 5,062 cattle on 222 acres. San Bernardino and Riverside counties have absorbed many former Orange County dairies. The 1960s to 1970s shift follows a decline in dairy wealth from 15.5 million in 1964 to 4.3 million in 1970.
