Convicted businessman still has $6 million U S funds
St Louis businessman Drew Stone who defrauded the government of more than $6 million has placed the funds in a St Louis bank and earns about $350000 annually in interest while serving a 11 year prison term. The government agreed to escrow the money to recover it elsewhere. Stone, his secretary Evelyn Price and lawyer Francis Rosenbaum pleaded guilty in 1970 to conspiracy to defraud through kickbacks and false invoices. The DOJ seeks only to track the funds, not seize them. No IRS action has been taken to attach the money or interest.
