Interior chief weighs using offshore oil revenue for coast states
Secretary of the Interior Roger C. J. Morton is weighing funneling part of federal income from offshore oil to coastal state treasuries. The plan would aid producing states and encourage Atlantic Coast cooperation to open the East Coast to petroleum operations. The idea was discussed at a Jan. 11 meeting with 14 Eastern state representatives. A spokesman said Morton considers augmenting the Land and Water Conservation Fund from Outer Continental Shelf receipts.
