Martin Named Head Start Executive Director in Long Beach
Willie Martin, 2 year project Head Start coordinator, was appointed executive director of the Long Beach Community Improvement League. The announcement cited his local residence, deep knowledge of poverty programs, and long service since 1966 with the Head Start initiative. Martin will lead 86 staff while continuing league community services funded by federal anti poverty programs. He is a Cal State Long Beach graduate and former football player who turned down an NFL offer to stay in community work. He succeeds Richard Harris and declined to discuss future projects, saying plans would be revealed soon.
