Hospital Baby Held In Atlanta Court Suit Over Bill
A young Atlanta couple sues Crawford Long Hospital after claiming state officials prevented them from taking their three week old son, Carl Michael, home until they pay an $83.34 bill incurred during the birth. Judge Trudge Dyarwood I. Pye ordered the baby produced in court and said the hospital must show cause. Hospital officials said they never told the parents they could not take the infant home and that partial payment was requested, not a denial of discharge. The couple, ages 29 and 20, said they merely wanted to see their child, seen only through a hospital window, and that the father is unemployed after Army discharge.
