Treasury officials report the debt ceiling nearly reached its cap, within about 100 million of 330 billion, as Congress considers a higher limit. They note upcoming certificate sales and spending trends could force a halt to check writing if the ceiling isn’t raised, while Republicans label the move a budget gimmick.
