Californians Campaign to Bar Communists from Office

A Sacramento based drive by the Californians Committee to Combat Communism aims to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot. Led by Dr. John Lechner and Louis Francis Ryan, the plan would ban the Communist Party or any communist organization from public office and require loyalty declarations for tax exemptions. The group filed the measure with California’s attorney general and must gather 420,462 valid signatures in 120 days.
