San Quentin 6 charges dropped in grand jury ruling
In Marin County a judge dismissed murder and conspiracy charges against the San Quentin Six as the grand jury that indicted them was found not to represent a cross section of the community. The six inmates included George Jackson among them and were linked to a 1971 escape attempt that killed three inmates and three guards. The ruling allows an immediate appeal by the district attorney. The prisoners remain in custody at the prison’s maximum security unit.
