Harbor Board to Send Four to Japan for Trade Promotion
Harbor Commissioners voted to dispatch a four member mission to Tokyo in early May to seek stronger trade ties with Japan. The three week visit aims to boost cargo business, with about 30 percent of Long Beach port tonnage tied to Japan last year. The trip, funded at 17538 from harbor revenue, will include two commissioners and two staffers. Also discussed were beauty pageant promotions and multiple construction payments for Sea Land and related firms.

A drive to obtain six thousand three hundred fifty five pen and renewal memberships was started this week by the Greater Long Beach YMCA. Two men get life terms in Torrance beating death
Two men convicted of first degree murder for the June 6 killing of Napoleon J. Gedaire at his Torrance service station received life prison terms. Judge J How ard Ziemann spared Buddy Boggs from the death penalty and sentenced Ernest McKinhey to life. A third defendant, Elbert Githousen, had pleaded guilty last month and also drew life imprisonment.

Driver Dead In Crash Is Identified
The coroner identifies Le caide Alvarado a 30 year old man killed when his car struck a power pole at 170th Street and Pioneer Boulevard Sunday night. The crash at 8 03 p m left his body trapped in the crushed vehicle for over three hours as 12 000 volt lines toppled onto the car. Witness Howard Steinhacher 22 of Fullerton says Alvarado’s car sideswiped his vehicle moments before the fatal crash. The car was registered to Richard Sanchez Norwalk and had been reported stolen earlier in the evening.

County OKs 6.2 Million For Buildings
County supervisors advanced two major construction projects totaling 6.2 million. Fellows & Associates, Inc. won a 1,033,500 contract for a general laboratories building at Los Angeles County General Hospital partly financed by 400,000 from NIH. the rest from a 26 million bond issue approved in 1964.
