Engineer at Collins Radio quit over plant layoffs
David M. Hodgin, 43, an electronic engineer at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, says he was told to pick two workers for layoff but resigned himself instead. Hodgin, father of four, disclosed his action at a church service after learning 550 employees would lose their jobs. He plans to form a company based on human dignity and full participation.

Singing chipmunks creator Bagdasarian dies at 52
Armenian songwriter and television executive David Seville creator Bagdasarian died at his Beverly Hills home at age 52 from natural causes. He pioneered the Chipmunks singing act with Alvin Theodore and Simon and produced millions of records and merchandise. He survived by wife Armen and five sons and a daughter. Also reported: a Coast Guard rescue on Lake St Clair saved three teens skating near the Michigan shore. Edward F. Fisher, last survivor of the Fisher Body founders, died in Detroit. he rose to GM production chief and helped expand Fisher Body after its 1926 GM purchase.
