Special OK on Passports Now Needed

The United States tightened travel to Cuba, requiring passports specifically authorizing trips. Existing U S passports not endorsed for Cuba travel are invalid unless an exception is granted for interests of the United States. Permanent resident aliens must obtain special permission from the U S Immigration Service. The rules align Cuba with Red China and other communist states, though enforcement may be less strict than for those countries. Travel will take effect as published in the Federal Register, likely within two days.
