Prisons ok furniture competition to sell to state
The State Commission on Correctional Industries ruled that prison inmates may manufacture desks tables and storage units at competitive prices. The decision, taken unanimously at Folson City Hall, allows sale only to state agencies and University of California campuses. Attorneys for private firms warned of employment impacts while several companies opposed the ruling. The spokesman said prison furniture would actively compete in the market by the 1967-68 fiscal year.
