Woman's Tip Traps Kostal in New York
Albert Joseph Kostal, a prison escapee from Colorado being hunted for murder, was captured near Times Square by FBI agents after a tip from an unidentified woman. He pulled a gun on agent Frank Gerrity, shot him in the leg, but was wounded when Gerrity and another agent restrained him. two other agents aided in the takedown. Kostal had escaped Jefferson County Jail in Golden on November 21 with Arthur Watson after a break in a case tied to the December 9, 1956, Isley slaying.

Two Orange County Men Die in Separate Crashes
Two Orange County men died in traffic accidents on Friday and today. Arthur C. Bliss, 20, of Garden Grove, was impaled on a steel post after leaving the freeway near Florence Ave while trying to pass another car. his passenger father Harald Bliss, 43, was uninjured. In a separate two-vehicle crash south of Garden Grove on wet pavement, John H. Freezell, 44, Santa Ana, died at the scene while a passenger in James A. Topping’s car, who was seriously hurt. The other drivers Gail Dockney, 35, Anaheim, and Rudolph Fevers, 26, Westminster, sustained serious injuries.

Washington AP reports House Armed Services Committee moved toward quick approval of a bill authorizing major parts of Eisenhower emergency space defense program. Vinson said the panel is in thorough agreement with a half-billion Air Force request, trimming one nonemergency item for $1.444 million at the Air Force Academy.
