Last Brownsville Fort Brown soldier finally gets 25000
Dorsie Willis, now 87, received 25000 from the federal government in Minneapolis. He is the last survivor among 167 black soldiers dishonorably discharged after the 1906 Brownsville affair. The Army corrected the record in 1973, upgrading discharges to honorable and prompting the payout. Willis pledged to spend the money, saying the relief came long overdue.

Gustavo and Maria Cuello, Cuban refugees who saved a decade to buy La Chica Grocery in Dallas, were shot and killed after a man entered the store on a slow Monday afternoon. The killer ordered a ham sandwich, then forced the couple to kneel before firing. The Cuellos had fled Castro's regime and once lost their store to the revolution, now losing it again for $50.
