Assemblyman Brown plans turbo Porsche for amateur racing
Sacramento AP reports Assemblyman Willie Brown, SF Democrat, plans to sell his 1975 Porsche Carrera to buy a faster turbocharged model. He aims to race seriously at Sears Point, with lessons and amateur racing that isn’t for competition, eyeing a top speed near 220 mph. Brown has 24,000 miles on the car and previously reached about 143 mph. He weighs a future bid that could pit him against Milton Marks, but doubts that will happen.

Assembly panel blocks 17.4 percent CHP pay raise
Sacramento—An Assembly committee killed a proposal for a 17.4 percent California Highway Patrol pay raise in the current year. Assemblyman Ken Maddy Fresno led the bill, which died 6-9 in Ways and Means. The plan would have allocated about 10.3 million to cover the gap between 10 and 17.5 percent, opposing the governor’s stance amid a recent ticket writing slowdown by patrol officers.
