East Coast dockmen OK pact on three year wage rise
A tentative three year contract would raise North Atlantic longshoremen wages by 32.6 percent, pending Pay Board approval. ILA leaders and mediation chief J Curtis Counts backed the deal, while the board had rejected a prior aerospace wage rise. The $1.50 an hour raise would cover ILA members from Maine to Virginia and could set a pattern for a regional Maine to Texas settlement covering 45,000 dockers.
