Sloppy Marines Warned by Commandant Shoup
General David M. Shoup, commandant of the Marine Corps, rails against sloppiness and yes men in a candid annual message. He frowns on unbelted coats, swagger sticks, loud outfits, and officers who neglect Marine duties for civilian pursuits. He warns some Marines still resemble relics of 1940s uniform habits and stresses readiness and proper assignments.
