Cohen Reports Medicare Changes Opposed by Health Chief
Wilbur J. Cohen, secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, told Congress that comprehensive health screening and preventive services should not be added to Medicare now. He released three reports detailing mental health care under Medicare, provider qualifications, and a call to widen private coverage, while urging studies on later health risk testing. He opposed licensed practical nurses assuming total nursing care at extended facilities, and recommended no changes to lab and therapy standards.
