White boycott of New Orleans integrated schools persists
In New Orleans the white boycott of integrated schools loosened slightly after a 10 day holiday. At William Frantz School thirteen white children and one Negro girl attended classes while eight white children did before Christmas. At McDonogh No. 19 three Negro girls attended the three story school as before. U.S. marshals escorted children into both schools with calm conditions and no demonstrations. The school board faces funding issues, missing paychecks for teachers, and bids for a $12.7 million loan scheduled for January from the state bond and tax board.
