Clemente Death Ends Puerto Rico Inauguration Festivities
Puerto Rico governor elect Rafael Hernandez Colón canceled all inaugural events after the death of Roberto Clemente in a Managua plane crash. Clemente, 88, famed tireless outfielder and humanitarian, had just been named head of the island's earthquake relief effort and was en route to aid victims. The crash also claimed several other aboard, with Coast Guard search continuing as authorities identified crewmembers and passengers.
