Medina Committee urges strict voluntary code on police news leaks
New York City Bar Association and the Medina Committee urged police to adopt a stringent voluntary code to prevent releasing defense information before trials. The American Society of News Editors and editors disputed the plan, arguing it could shield incompetence and curb public rights. The report favors limiting police and lawyer disclosures and proposes a single information officer to manage defendant data.
