16 LB Ships Join 1st Fleet Exercise

Staten and Long Beach ships are among 42 vessels taking part in the 1st Fleet's large scale exercise, dubbed Admixture, under way now through March 3. Vice Admiral Peet says the drills cover electronic and anti submarine warfare and test readiness for all operating forces. Over 20,000 men participate, including a Marine force, with Long Beach units among the destroyers and support ships listed.

Gillingham to Colombia on fund development mission

Gillingham and his wife travel March 1 for a three month assignment at Hospital Universitario de Valle and the Foundation M3 Caza in Call Colombia. Appointed by the International Executive Service Corps he gained national recognition for hospital fund raising methods in Long Beach. The Service Corps is a nonprofit group with executives serving without salary, covering travel and living expenses.
