Welfare study shows healthier, younger families on aid
The HEW report based on a 1 percent sample finds AFDC recipients in 1971 were younger, healthier, and better educated, with more employed fathers at home and more in large cities. The study notes shorter welfare durations, higher high school completion, increased food stamp use, and rising first time entrants as welfare rolls edge down slowly.
