Bills Would End Oil Depletion Deal in California
SACRAMENTO Assemblyman John L. Burton proposed abolishing the oil depletion allowance for California firms and replacing it with a 2 percent severance tax. He said the measures would raise more than 50 million dollars for the state treasury, with about 20 million from oil produced in state and refin ing and distributing outside the state. A companion bill would pull the depletion allowance from personal income, bank, and corporate taxes, which Burton calls a major revenue loophole.
