Soldier Richard Gearity Convicted of Unpremeditated Murder

Pvt Richard Gearity 20 of Patchogue N Y was found guilty by a eight man general court martial of unpremeditated murder and aggravated assault for opening fire on a bus at a guard tower near Lai Khe 30 miles north of Saigon on November 17 He faced life in prison on conviction and plans for appeal were noted Gearitys father Lt Gerard Gearity of Suffolk County Police voiced belief his son was a sacrificial lamb in a setup in South Vietnam

Civilian casualties in South Vietnam delta exceed 100000

UPI report quotes John Paul Vann testifying to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that civilian deaths in the delta last year may top 100000.
