Striking Postal Union Gets Promise of Loans
Britain faces a prolonged postal strike as unions pledge interest free loans totaling 360000 dollars to the United Postal Workers. The UPW, unpaid for five weeks, could extend the walkout into March with more unions expected to back aid. The government sacked Hugh Clegg, seen as a potential mediator, amid disputes over wage targets while the strike disrupts mail and telegraph services.
