Beatrix Announces March Wedding To Claus von Amsberg

Crown Princess Beatrix and Claus von Amsberg formalize plans to marry in March. The 28 year old Dutch heir and the 39 year old German diplomat signed banns in a private ceremony at the Tall building, with Mayor F. van Beeck Calkoen acting as registrar. Crowds greet them as they depart.

Fire Drives 15 Elderly From Home in South El Monte

Fifteen residents aged 10 to 90 escaped a rear fire at Parkway Convalescent Home in South El Monte. No injuries were reported. Alarms were raised by resident Rebecca Freposo, 21, after a smoke smell. Assistant administrator James Alston helped usher patients outside as five county fire units fought the flames.

CIA Recruiting Aides at Colleges Instead of Bond Types

The CIA is recruiting on about 101 college campuses seeking graduate students with basic scientific training for photos interpretation work. On campus recruiting has run for nearly 29 years, with Grinnell College students picketing recruiters. Most CIA employees work in analysis rather than spycraft, officials said. An international citrus symposium will be held March 17 25 at the University of California Riverside as part of the campus centennial celebration.

Boycott Threat After Day Island Seizure

SAN DIEGO UPS A nationwide boycott of Colombian products has been threatened by a fishermen's union leader unless the Day Island tuna clipper and her 16 crew are freed. The 962 ton vessel owned by Al Davies of San Diego, seized off Buena Ventura February 3, carries 320 tons of tuna valued at 150000 dollars and operates out of Puerto Rico. Union official John J. Royal warned the State Department the strike will proceed if release is not obtained.

Smog Devices Required for 1966 Economy Run

Los Angeles to Boston economy run will require smog control devices on all entries modeled in 1964. Cars must maintain a 50 mph average over the 3200 mile, seven day course starting March 14 with entries from across the country.

Twenty States Ratify 25th Amendment Progress

Washington reports the proposed 23th amendment has passed halfway to ratification with 20 of 38 states approving. The measure would allow the vice president to act as president if the president is incapacitated and permit filling a vacancy in the vice presidency with Congress approval. Kansas was the latest state to ratify, last week.
