Israel weighs ban on Christian missionaries
A government source says Israel may bar most or all of about 1,000 Christian missionaries in the country citing faith abandonment. Prime Minister Meir and cabinet plan to discuss a bill in Sunday’s weekly meeting to ban missionary work, with the National Religious Party’s influence making passage likely. Separately Rabbi Meir Kahane staged a hunger strike at the Wailing Wall in protest of missionary activity after a spate of attacks on mission groups. Eight people tied to Kahane’s group face arrest over arson and bombing attempts tied to the protests.
