In Santa Ana a 17 year old Andrew Barela was shot in the back during a gang clash. Seven youths and a man were detained on rioting and assault to murder charges as Barela underwent surgery to remove a .22 caliber rifle slug from his spine. Physicians reported the operation relieved pressure and he will not be paralyzed.
