Murray named LSU official as next Texas Tech president

Dr. Grover E. Murray, 49, vice president for academic affairs in the LSU system, will become president of Texas Tech next fall, succeeding retiring Dr. Robert C. Goodwin. The board of directors announced the eighth president selection Monday night.

Edinboro State College President Dies of Heart Attack

Edinboro Pa. Thomas R Miller 58 president of Edinboro State College died Monday from a heart attack. He led the college through expansion and academic reforms. Funeral arrangements were to be announced by the Miller family.

Two Speakers Ban at U. of N. Carolina

At Chapel Hill the university executive committee denied invitations to Herbert Aptheker and Frank Wilkinson under a North Carolina speaker ban law. The 8-3 vote delays action until the trustees meet February 28 to set visiting speaker rules. The amended law, returning control to trustees, bars known Communists or those pleading the Fifth Amendment from state supported college talks. Wilkinson had before pleaded the Fifth in 1952. Aptheker’s and Wilkinson’s planned appearances were March 9 and March 2 respectively.
