Kidnapers Threaten Acapulco Official Over Prisoner Demand
Armed men abducted Civente Ruedo Saucedo the Acapulco deputy mayor and demand freedom for 50 peasants plus a ransom. About 300 students gathered outside the prison while troops contained protests and later internal disturbances. Ruedo Saucedo has business and political ties and was seized January 28. The ransom began at 400000 dollars, cut to 240100 after the wife could not raise funds, with a new demand to free peasants tortured by the fascist government. In Moyac in 1973 a mass arrest of peasants linked to a guerrilla-killing band occurred, with about half still jailed.
