Stepfather Denies Beating Girl in South San Francisco
Joseph Bedard a house painter charged with beating his 9 year old stepdaughter Susan pleaded innocent in Municipal Court. A note by Susan to Pedro Valley School officials alleged abuse and bruises were found on her body. A preliminary hearing was set for Monday with Bedard held on 5000 cash bond. Bedard claimed Susan had fought with her half sister Pamela and that Pamela spanked the dog. His wife said she spanked Susan for trying to kill the dog and that Bedard is taking the blame to keep her out of jail. Adoption offers were discussed as possible outcomes if parents refuse custody.
