State Senate Urges Drilling Suspension in Channel
The California Senate unanimously urged Congress to impose a moratorium on oil drilling on federally leased sites beneath the Santa Barbara Channel. The action cites past leakage near Santa Barbara and notes no guarantee of preventing recurrence if drilling continues. The resolution was introduced by Sen. Lagomarsino. In Washington, Sen. Murphy urged Santa Barbara hearings on a drilling ban to be held there, with hearings set for Feb. 24-25.
