Legal Abortions in State Far Below Predictions
California’s Therapeutic Abortion Act, effective Nov 8 1967, saw 4281 applications through Sep 1968 with 9 percent approved by medical committees and 88 percent resulting in legal abortions. Most recipients were California residents, unmarried, and first pregnancies were common.
