18 Percent Stop Pill Use Says Newsweek Poll
Newsweek cites Gallup poll of 895 American women aged 21 to 45 showing 18 percent stopped using birth control pills and 23 percent consider quitting due to fear of side effects. About a quarter used the pill in the last three months while 76 percent reported being very satisfied. Many defectors doubt the pill largely due to hearings by Sen Gaylord Nelson's monopoly subcommittee.
