In Chicago a 61 year old man Otto Werner was freed after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of his bed ridden wife Anna 63. Judge Marovitz set aside the plea and found not guilty, saying a jury would likely acquit. Werner had admitted to smothering his wife with rags and later overdosing himself. A physician friend testified that Mrs Werner had asked to die due to suffering and burden. Daughter Helen Bryk supported his care, and Werner left with his daughter.
