Translator ruins Carter speech in Polish with odd word choices
A U S translator Stephen Seymour misrendered key phrases in President Carter's Warsaw arrival speech provoking laughter. Reports say he used rusty antiquated Polish and even mixed in Russian syntax, translating "lusts for the future" as "your lusts for the future" and other lines oddly. Officials say Seymour may be limited to English-to-Polish work for the rest of the visit, while a replacement translator is assigned for a later news conference.
