The Long Beach chapter of the National Association of Social Workers condemned Governor Reagan’s veto of the California Rural Legal Assistance program. The group accused him of snuffing out an effective voice for the poor and destroying the program for challenging government decisions.
Sen. Cranston threatens to stall Frank Carlucci’s Senate confirmation as director of the Office of Economic Opportunity until Carlucci commits to actions on the California Rural Legal Assistance Program. Carlucci proposes a 20 day interim grant to CRLA to study the governor’s objections while Cranston questions the move amid Reagan’s veto battle and CRLA’s legal actions against Medi Cal cuts.
