Mighty gutty men save Los Angeles harbor in scuba dive
A selvage team of fire divers from the Los Angeles Fire Department, led by Battalion Chief Jack Douglas, intervened at Pier 174 to fight a harbor fire. They cut holes, lowered hoses, and entered 10:30 a.m. smoke and water, aiding escape and rescue as Chief Raymond Hi praised their courage. By 7 p.m. amber haze thickened while two dozen divers remained in the water, part of 46 strong unit formed about 18 months ago.
