Village designed to aid disabled residents in Siskiyou County
WEED AP reports a $9.8 million federally funded pilot village being built in Siskiyou County to house and educate up to 309 physically handicapped or mentally disabled persons. Ground breaks next summer for a 100-enrollee phase, with barrier-free one-story cottages, vocational and educational facilities, and a campus-like layout. Lois Listog says residents will elect a mayor and council and publish a local newspaper, aiming to serve as a national model for dignified living and rehabilitation.
