Six Arrested After White House Christmas Protest
About 37 demonstrators staged a medieval morality play at the White House and held a Mass comparing President Nixon to King Herod. Six were arrested after two protesters vaulted the fence and others chained themselves to the fence. Debra Daniels and Mitchell Snyder faced unlawful entry charges, while Rosemary Brande Teresa Kohlenberg Gerard Gange and Joan Cavenaugh were charged with disorderly conduct. An eyewitness described protesters being carried away as they offered pictures of mutilated Vietnamese children. The event, led by Rev. Phillip Berrigan, linked Christmas to antiwar protests against Indochina.
