A California jury debated life or death for L. Ewing Scott in the murder of Evelyn Scott. The same jury that convicted him heard closing arguments as the presiding judge separated trial and sentencing under a new law.
President Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower will depart Friday for about a week at their Gettysburg Pennsylvania farm. The White House said the President will work on the State of the Union and other messages to Congress early in the session beginning January 7. Press Secretary Hagerty noted plans to confer at Gettysburg with Budget Director Percival Brundage and possibly with other officials. The trip by car leaves around 2 pm Friday and reporters are asked to limit the number of cars in the motorcade due to prior traffic incidents. The President was at the White House today working on the State of the Union and spoke with Secretary of State Dulles. he is said to be feeling fine after rest following NATO talks in Paris.
Moscow reports that Russians backed a seven point peace plan approved by the Supreme Soviet, while denouncing the Western call for a foreign ministers conference on disarmament. Pravda quoted the NATO summit criticism by Eisenhower and Dulles as a cold war sermon.

Sheriff's deputies investigate the death of an unidentified man found badly burned in the desert about 250 feet off Palmdale road near Victorville. The body was discovered Wednesday by children playing and was dressed in work clothes. An autopsy is pending.
