Bethlehem Journey Crosses Border With Afflicted Pilgrims
First Christmas pilgrims, nearly twenty ailing individuals, cross from Israel into Jordan at the Mandelbaum Gate, heading to Jerusalem’s Old City and the Church of the Nativity grotto. The crossing, calmer amid low Arab-Israeli tension, ends with a midnight mass where the Infant Jesus is laid on a silver star. Servites and Protestant groups plan services at the Nativity grotto.
