First Mars TV transmission lasts 20 seconds
Soviet report on Mars 4 lander says the descent was flawless but the television panorama lasted only 20 seconds due to an unknown factor, likely a dust storm or local conditions. Instruments aimed to study surface composition and atmosphere, but no life signs reported. Orbiter data from Mars 2 and Mars 3 and U.S. Mariners will guide further information.
