Bias Ban in City Contracts Endorsed by Committee
Long Beach Human Relations Committee endorsed a policy to ban racial discrimination by city contractors. Officials may add a non discrimination clause to future contract specifications with no legal barriers, per City Atty. Leonard Putnam. The board also discussed housing discrimination and realtor practices, including findings from Fair Housing Foundation surveys.

Plastics Exec Convicted in Arson Case
Boyd M Gaines 36 a former secretary treasurer of Nationwide Plastics Co was found guilty Thursday of two arson counts and attempted arson in connection with a 100000 fire at the 627 E Washington St Santa Ana plant April 18 and a separate November 7 1964 Anaheim fire that destroyed another plant. The jury in Santa Ana Superior Court deliberated about 214 hours before verdict. Judge Howard C Cameron set January 6 for sentencing. Gaines of Lake Tahoe is free on 1659 bail.
