Pine Avenue Pier and Rainbow Pier History in Long Beach
The Pine Avenue Pier completed in May 1893 was rebuilt in 1904 after unsafe wood construction. In 1921 Rainbow Pier absorbed the pier’s outer end and sun parlor, leaving the rest attached. Major storm damage struck in 1930 and 1934, with Rainbow Pier torn down in 1966.

Plane Crash Near Home Hits Swimming Pool
Roy Hardie, 34, said a small plane narrowly missed his house at 3876 Greenbrier Road and crashed into his swimming pool just after midnight. He and his wife awoke to a loud boom and found the pilot standing inside the wrecked craft. a woman aboard cried for help as rescuers arrived.
