Rolling Stones face cool Britain return after US tragedy
The Stones drew a tepid reception in Britain after a chaotic US show where four people were killed and four babies born during the performance. Police reinforcements and ambulance units were on standby as 1,200 fans remained seated amid polite applause. Mick Jagger urged fans to rise, but few did. Meanwhile Cyrus Eaton spoke on peace talks regarding Vietnam, noting potential compromises and optimism about prisoner treatment, while North Vietnam hinted at a more liberal stance toward POWs. Eaton planned to report to President Nixon on his return.
