Anonymous Germs Resemble TB Yet Differ From It
The Veterans Administration reports a TB-like disease from an atypical acid-fast germ called anonymous. California leads in cases with 95 this past year and Long Beach VA Hospital sees about three patients monthly. These patients show TB symptoms and react to tuberculin tests, but TB bacilli are often not found. Four groups exist. Group 1 drives most California cases. Group 3, Battey, is centered in Georgia and Florida. Some forms respond to standard TB drugs in California, while others, particularly Battey, show poorer drug response.
