California Democrats push early delegate reform plan
California lawmakers push a McGovern styled reform to speed up delegate selection for the Democratic National Convention. The bill would move California’s presidential primary filing date to February and require two party caucuses in each of the 43 districts. Delegates would be chosen by a reorganized committee, reducing the current bloc held by a three member slate. The measure passed without Republican opposition and awaits Governor Reagan’s signature.
